1, 2 and 3-day itinerary
This is how we do it when the trip allows two nights in the area.
Flash floods and cold
Two things are worth knowing. After a storm in the Atlas, especially in spring and late summer, the Todra and the Dades ravines can rise within minutes. If it has rained higher up, stay out of the riverbed and the side gorges, even if it's sunny down here. The other is the winter night: at this altitude it freezes, and not every hotel heats its rooms properly. Ask about heating when you book and read travelling to Morocco in winter.
What to eat and what to buy
Produce from the valley and the surrounding villages, nearly all of it easy to pack.

How to get there
Practical tips
In the Todra the river water is cold all year; bring sandals if you go in spring. In the car park at the gorge you'll be offered a guide and carpets; you need neither for the short section. The upper Dades road narrows past the bends, so if you're driving yourself, read driving in Morocco first and be back before dark.
